Dell Offers Numerous Upgrade Options for Inspiron Mini 10

Dell recently added several upgrade options for it's popular Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook. Several weeks ago, an option for a 56WHr Lithium-Ion six-cell battery was added for an extra $30. This is welcome news to help extend battery life from under three hours to between four and eight hours depending on whose statistics you believe.

Dell has also added Ubuntu 8.0.4 Standard Edition as an operating system option in addition to Windows XP Home Edition. Configurations that select Ubuntu as the operating system offer several solid-state disk (SSD) storage options - 32 GB for an extra $75 and 64GB for an extra $125. A 160GB 2.5" 5400RPM SATA hard drive is included in the base price.

These hard drive options will not be available for the Windows XP Mini 10 for some time due to some original restrictions from Microsoft around what level of hardware can be offered on netbook-type devices. Windows XP netbooks are limited to a 16GB SSD and Windows Vista machines are limited to 24GB SSD maximums.

Kensington Introduces Five Portable Accessories for Netbook Enthusiasts

Kensington, the maker of an unfathomable number of accessories for mobile gadgets has launched five new products aimed specifically at the growing Netbook market.

Among the products announced were wired and wireless mice for $14.99 and $24.99 respectively.

A Power Adapter for Netbooks is priced at $49.99, and is compatible with a number of Netbooks with a built-in USB port for charging peripherals such as an iPhone or GPS unit. Kensington reports the adapter is compatible with Acer®, Asus®, Dell®, HP®, LG®, Lenovo™, MSI and Samsung® netbooks and uses color-coded power tips for the different configurations. What a great idea!

Also available are the ubiquitous Kensington security lock priced at $24.99 and an average-looking reversible sleeve case/jacket for $14.99.

I'm personally pleased to see an additional power adapter offered especially with a USB port for charging one of the too many devices that feed off the grid and the changeable tips for different Netooks. I would require samples of the mice for review to determine if they are road-worthy however.

The Kensington Netbook Accessories are available for pre-order at Amazon.com, Kensington.com and will be available by the end of the month at other major retailers.
